Tuesday After Work I decided to go down to MoCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) ed Locatat 594 Broadway, Suite 401 (btwn. Houston and Prince) New York. MAP
The current exhibit is- Sounds and Pauses: The Comics of David Mazzucchelli. For those of you who don’t know who that is…
In celebration of the release of his highly-anticipated book, Asterios Polyp, The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is pleased to present David Mazzucchelli’s first retrospective exhibition in the U.S. Mazzucchelli’s career encompasses early groundbreaking work in Daredevil and Batman: Year One; idiosyncratic short stories in his self-published anthology, Rubber Blanket, and elsewhere; the graphic novel adaptation of City of Glass; and his new graphic novel. For over 25 years, Mazzucchelli has distinguished himself with articulate storytelling and emotive drawings in service to comics in a variety of genres. Sounds and Pauses: The Comics of David Mazzucchelli presents over 80 original comic pages, drawings, prepatory sketches and covers from the artist’s archives, allowing an invaluable look at Mazzucchelli’s artistic journey.
I grew up reading the comics that my brother read. If he liked something I would generally want to read it. So I was pretty lucky that he had good taste in books. I remember drawing these Daredevil and Batman panels trying to copy the poses. It was pretty interesting to view the original work that I used to mimic growing up. It certainly took me back some years. I highly recommend checking it out. $5 is the suggested donation, but they will gladly accept any donation you wish to give.
